Category: Falls Hazard: Fall Protection Standard Violated: 1926.501(b)(1) Corrective Action: Fall protection must be provided for any employee on a walking or working surface with an unprotected side or edge which is six feet or more above a lower level. If guard rails are used for this protection, they must be equipped with a top rail approximately 42 inches (plus or minus 3 inches) above the walking or working surface, with midrails, screens, mesh, intermediate vertical members or equivalent structural members installed between the top edge of the guard rail and the walking or working surface. If midrails are used, they will be installed midway between the top edge of the guard rail and the walking or working surface. Description: The above photo shows a missing mid-rail on an open-sided floor of a building. This is possibly exposing employees to an 11.5 feet fall. |
