Category: Silica Hazard: Employees were at an increased risk of overexposurte to silica from piles of sand and silica dust that were not frequently cleaned-up. The material had accumulated outside of the abrasive blasting booth because the booth was not adequately ventilated or constructed to prevent the escape of the blasting agent (sand). Standard Violated: 1910.94(a)(7), 1910.94(a)(3)(i) Corrective Action: A new booth and exhaust system was installed and aluminum oxide was substituted as a blasting agent. Description: The photo depicts an excessive accumulation of sand and silica dust on the outside of an abrasive blasting booth where overexposures were identified. |
